Citizen Connect ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Citizen Connect web application and the Citizen Connect browser extension (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. Please read this policy carefully. By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
The Citizen Connect browser extension is designed to monitor publicly accessible Facebook community group pages that you explicitly configure. When the extension performs a scan, it collects the following information from those pages:
The extension stores the following data locally on your device using the browser's built-in storage API. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly sent to your configured server:
The Citizen Connect web application may collect the following information when you interact with it:
We want to be clear about the boundaries of our data collection:
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
| Purpose | Data Used |
|---|---|
| Identify community service requests from group posts | Post content, post metadata |
| Display reports and dashboards in the web application | Processed post data, account information |
| Avoid duplicate processing of previously scanned posts | Bookmark fingerprints (stored locally) |
| Maintain and improve the Service | Usage data, server logs |
| Communicate with you about the Service | Account email address |
When the browser extension performs a scan, extracted post data is transmitted via HTTPS to the server URL you have configured. We recommend always using an HTTPS endpoint. Data is sent as a JSON payload and is not transmitted to any other destination.
Post data received by the Citizen Connect server is stored in a secured database. Access to this data is restricted to authenticated users with appropriate roles. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.
We retain collected post data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy or as required by applicable law. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 9). Local extension data can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing browser storage.
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
The Citizen Connect browser extension requests the following permissions, each for a specific and limited purpose:
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
alarms | Schedule periodic background scans at your configured interval. |
storage | Save your settings, group list, and scan statistics locally in the browser. |
tabs | Detect open Facebook group tabs and read page titles when adding new groups. |
scripting | Inject a content script into Facebook group pages to read visible post text from the DOM. |
host_permissions (facebook.com) | Required to access Facebook group page content. No other websites are accessed. |
The Citizen Connect web application uses a single authentication cookie to maintain your login session. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting technologies. The browser extension does not set or read any cookies.
We take the security of your data seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it, including:
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information in Section 9. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
You can also control the extension's behavior at any time: disable scanning, remove monitored groups, or uninstall the extension entirely to stop all data collection.
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
